Jefferson County Planning Area 11, in which the unincorporated community of Brinnon is located, stretches twenty miles along the Hood Canal shoreline at the foot of the Olympic Mountain Range. The fifty square-mile area includes the Duckabush and Dosewallips Rivers, as well as numerous streams, creeks, ponds, and wetlands. Rare endangered species count on vegetation and waterways for their survival.
Because of its position beneath Mount Olympus, the Brinnon area shares some of the benefits as well as the deficits of the "rain shadow" and has less rain than other parts of the Olympic Peninsula. Pulali Point in particular enjoys a thermal microclimate caused when steep foothills plunge directly to sea level. This results in a warming effect and ideal habitat for numerous and unusual plant, wildlife, and shoreline species. SEE MORE AT updated and expanded Brinnon Info Habitat & Wildlife page.
