WRIA 16 plan (covering most of Brinnon) has been approved: See Skokomish-Dosewallips Watershed Planning web page maintained by Department of Ecology. See 22 page executive summary (pdf) of the plan with great maps, photos and illustrations.

WRIA 17 (covering a north sliver of Brinnon, around Pulali Point) is in the planning stage. See Documents pertaining to WRIA 17 as maintained by Department of Ecology. WRIA 17 planning has been contentious and never-ending. See DOE Gets Earful at WRIA meeting. See WRIA 17 blog.

The overarching goal of the Shoreline Management Act is "to prevent the inherent harm in an uncoordinated and piecemeal development of the state’s shorelines." In Jefferson County, the SMA applies to land use and development proposals in and near all marine waters and certain streams, rivers, and lakes.

Jefferson County is scheduled to submit an update of its Shoreline Master Program (SMP) to the State Department of Ecology by June 30, 2007. See Jefferson County Shoreline Management & Planning web portal.

Critical Areas Planning

Washington State's Growth Management Act requires local government to designate and protect environmentally critical areas such as fish and wildlife habitat conservation areas, wetlands, geologically hazardous areas, and critical aquifer recharge areas. Under the current schedule, Jefferson County’s Board of Commissioners will consider development code amendments in January 2007.
